Regarding The Barn 2020

Niseko, Hokkaido.

A place known and eagerly sought by skiers and snowboarders for its powder snow. Situated in this city, is an eye-catching glass building inspired by traditional Hokkaido farmhouses, in which our restaurant, The Barn, is located.

In this city, we have a mission to create a hotel where people from all over the globe gather, to share our wholehearted hospitality, “Omotenashi”, and ultimately, to bring this “Omotenashi” across the globe. With this mission in mind, we from Plan.Do.See., have gratefully had opportunities to operate The Barn each winter since 2014.

However, 2020 happened. A year when the entire world seems to halt, being swept by the Novel Coronavirus pandemic. Many thoughts, concerns and discussions were made as to whether we should proceed this year, or to take a break and be safe.

“Will we even have any customers at all?”
“Will the health and welfare of our staff be guaranteed as they stay in the dormitories?”

Contrasting opinions and discussions continued on even as the third wave of the spread of COVID-19 occurs in Sapporo.

Finally, there was a person who said this.

“Which is easier? To decide to suspend the project, or to think of ways to make this project work in this year of pandemic? We will be able to come up with hundreds of reasons why we shouldn’t proceed for this year. However, the reason Plan.Do.See. has come so far over the years is precisely that we have viewed problems from different perspectives and figured ways to work around them. Shouldn’t we be seeing The Barn in the same light?”

“Create hotels and restaurants around the world that offer memorable experiences while building a lasting, positive relationship together with our guests, partners, team members and communities.”

This, is the vision of Plan.Do.See.

Year 2020 is precisely why we have decided to carry on.
To return to The Barn, in this place called Niseko, to serve meals that warm our guests through and to bring them our “Omotenashi” service.
Our utmost considerations will be given as well to ensure the safety of all guests and staff.

From all of us at The Barn, we look forward to your patronage.
